Marie Louise Elshout (Rotterdam) reflects in her work the desire for ninteenth-century Romanticism in which the true is central. The world she enters is populated by melancholic beings who seem to be loaded with the power of Nature, wandering in their own world with their own secrets and rituals. Because of her refined technique in which she mixes pencil with oil paint, the figures look fragile, like vaque ghosts from the past.
