BETWEEN HERE AND THERE
21 SEPTEMBER – 3 NOVEMBER 2024
This duo exhibition features work by two painters, both make work in which a form of distance is leading. This distance can be approached on a social and cultural level, but also in a front and back space, creating different dimensions.
Between Here and There, a duo exhibition by Susan de Boer and Bo de Jong.
Susan de Boer builds a painting with several layers of oil paint over each other. The intriguing depth of the unapproachable nature, heavy rock formations and massive landscapes that inspire her so, seem to emerge through each carefully applied stroke. While painting she arrives at abstraction and tries to capture the essence. She lets herself be guided by what happens in the paint.

Bo de Jong sees that under the influence of the deeply rooted misogyny in this world women are often depicted as weak and fragile, and therefore incapable of heavy work. A misconception still cultivated and not yet uprooted. In Bo de Jong’s work women take back the position denied to them. They show the eternal strength of women, unmoveable as the mountains, strong and impossible to exterminate as the climbing vine Hedera Helix, long lived and persistent as the Agave plant.
