Three painters exhibit their work during this exhibition. The work of the artists seems to have little in common. But there are similarities. It is figurative and challenging and it gives a fresh look at contemporary painting. But most of all, the work offers the viewer a moment of uninhibited wonder.

Een moment van onbevangen verwondering, a group exhibition by Jeroen Duijf, Tanya Janssen and Eva Krause.

Jeroen Duijf mainly paints characters of himself in what seems a fantasy world. As a combination between explorer and pirate, Duijf paints what he experiences, hears and sees outside his studio. In doing so, he creates a kind of comic book about what he notices in his life. Moving between still lifes from the seventeenth century laced with symbolism and the toys from the animated film Toy Story, age-old subjects are parried with humor and given a contemporary twist with a revealing brushstroke.

Tanya Janssen has overpopulation and its consequences as a theme in her work. It creates aggression and isolation. We are cut off from our own nature. In her paintings, the viewer peeks from behind plant growth to the world that man has created. But Janssen also paints fairytale forests that are full of sunlight, beautiful but also ominous.

Eva Krause knows how to immediately capture the viewer with her unique representations. The artist subtly uses her own rules to give her own interpretation to the art movements of realism, surrealism and abstract art and occupies a unique space within them. There is indeed a fascination with the grotesque, absurd and petulant, but it is never completely clear, so you start guessing and interpreting it before you know it, with the result that it doesn’t let go.
