VIEW ARTIST CV
For Jeroen Duijf, painting is a celebration and a necessity of life. He draws his inspiration from everyday life. Duijf is a true painter. He alternates thick layers of oil paint with flowing brushstrokes. Jeroen is familiar with the work of the old masters and aware of current developments in contemporary painting, which is reflected in his work. Duijf explores, asks questions, delves deeper, and discovers painting. The world depicted by Duijf in his work shows skulls, tropical islands, strange birds, polluting factories, a black cat, and tattooed people dressed in tracksuits.
In his most recent work, Duijf is fascinated by subcultures, such as punk and hardcore. Friendship within a subculture appeals to Jeroen. In everyday life, the differences between people can be considerable, but when friends get together at a concert or around a campfire, for example, those differences disappear and a sense of connection emerges. The painted tracksuits always have three recognizable stripes that clearly refer to a well-known sports brand. In addition to their recognizability, these iconic stripes also have a high degree of abstraction. In this series, he seeks a balance between creating figurative and abstract work.
