“It is not here that chamomile is served. However, if the artist shocks, it is not to break the conveniences but to summon courage”. – Miguel Mesquita da Conha about Tanya Janssen

Tanya Janssen’s paintings reflect her fascination with the relationship between humans and nature. Her work focuses on the concept of ‘weeds’, where she wants to emphasize the beauty and power of these often-ignored plants. By giving the ‘weeds’ a prominent place, Tanya tries to show the fragility and transience of human dominance over nature.
In Tanya’s Toy Stories series, she uses found toys to create stories that evolve around trauma and loss. They invite the viewer to reflect on their own personal history and emotions.
Janssen also experiments with conceptual images that are created with the help of artificial intelligence. With this technology she explores the boundaries between man and machine and tries to discover new ways of creation and expression. Her work in the world of AI is a quest for the essence of what it means to be an artist in the 21st century.
