A QUEST THROUGH PARADISE
24 MAY – 6 JULY 2025
This exhibition features work by two artists who depict everyday encounters in an extraordinary way.
A Quest Through Paradise, a duo exhibition by Loes Groothuis and Maria de Vet.
Loes Groothuis recognizes herself in the figure of the Greek goddess Persephone, who is forced to stay in the underworld. From mythology and Buddhism to the Middle Ages and Italian frescoes; Loes Groothuis sends you on a quest through paradise, hell and known and unknown worlds. Groothuis makes here installations from drawings to which she adds cardboard and papier-mâché objects. Loes Groothuis considers her installations as a representation of different times and worlds with temples, paradise or, on the contrary, the underworld and hell. – Text by Museum CODA

Maria de Vet finds her inspiration in the work of the old masters from the past century and in today’s mass media: the internet, magazines, photographs. De Vet’s paintings are created by digitally composing images. She creates with a collage-like technique of cutting and pasting, both digitally and spatially, a unique world that is a source of inspiration for her paintings. Maria de Vet’s work evokes a sense of nostalgia but is painted in a contemporary way. Maria shows everyday scenes with a sense of humor.
