The similarity between the artists is that they draw inspiration from different cultures and bring them together and translate them into their own visual language. This creates the suggestion of a new culture with its associated rituals, history and traditions. Besides that, all three artists use contours and outer lines in their work.
CONTOUR, a group exhibition by Bo de Jong, Liesbeth Bijkerk and Loes Groorthuis.
In her recent work Bo de Jong takes the cultivated garden and tamed nature as a starting point. In her formal language she shows what goes unnoticed by many, in the cultivated or uncultivated wilderness. De Jong uses different types of paint, graphics, dry point and linocuts in her work.
For Liesbeth Bijkerk painting is creating, making something from nothing. Her starting point is not visual reality, Bijkerk does not depict anything. Her work can be seen as traces of memories. This can be personal experiences, but also works by others such as paintings, frescoes or texts.
