BERT LOERAKKER . ROGIER WALRECHT .
22 APRIL   18 JUNE 2023

Two completely different artists are placed opposite each other in this exhibition. The artists make no concessions to their own work. However, just like their work, they engage in conversation with each other. There is no search for similarity, but for a dialogue.

TEGENOVERELKAARGESTELD, a duo exhibition by Bert Loerakker and Rogier Walrecht.

Bert Loerakker (1948), born in Breda, currently lives and works in Helmond, is a fellow committee member of Sebastiaan Dijk at dthe Cacaofabriek Expo in Helmond. Typical of his work is the confrontation of abstraction with a natural phenomenon.

By choosing nature and order, he has determined how he engages with reality. Alongside his obsession with intimacy in his work, he also wants to express what he believes in. While his thinking process originally took place in the space between the two parts of his work, the different picture planes later began to work against each other and to merge into each other; the confrontation became more intense, but at the same time a more unified whole emerged. Here nature meets order. Their collision gives rise to reflection.

Rogier Walrecht is fascinated by the psyche of living beings and expresses this by contrasting people and animals their own world. For Walrecht painting and sculpting is based on individual experience and emotion that finds its full resonance in expressionism from Europe at the beginning of the 20th century. The detailed and mystical art from the Dark Ages. European and American Pop art from the second half of the last century. These art movements mixed in the 21st century. They are sources of inspiration. For Walrecht, art is a quest to convey a feeling to his viewers using different techniques and media, so that the viewer also becomes inspired!
